Nevin Lyne
Infrastructure Consultant
An authority on hosting infrastructure and server optimization, Nevin Lyne has over two decades of technology industry experience spanning servers, networking, access control/video surveillance, software QA, and a range of Internet services. He entered the online world in the early 80’s when 300 baud was magic and thoughts of more storage than a floppy disk were mere fantasy.
Nevin’s first exposure to the Internet was in the very early pre-web 90’s via UseNet and 1200-baud dial-up shell access. After this, he was hooked and never looked back. His passion for server and networking technology kicked into high gear in the early 90’s while working for an international online service. In 1994, Nevin worked on extending the online service to the Internet, which included his first exposure to running a web server, DNS, and other key Internet services that most of us take for granted today.
Nevin founded Gippy’s Internet Solutions, a technology consulting and hosting company, in 1998. Throughout the dot com era, Nevin worked with clients ranging from small businesses to large corporations, evangelizing three key values: security, stability, and performance of their Internet properties.
In 2002, Nevin and Rick Ellis formed a partnership which launched pMachineHosting.com (now EngineHosting.com) to provide fast, secure, and stable hosting for the growing pMachine Pro (Rick Ellis’s original blogging/publishing tool) user community. This has extended through the growth of EllisLab and their content management systems, ExpressionEngine and MojoMotor, into present day.
In 2007, Ian Landsman and Nevin started a partnership that gives global HelpSpot help desk software users the means to house their help desk in a secure, high performance off-site hosting solution.
Nevin lives with his wife and daughter in Rochester, Minnesota and loves science fiction, great food, home DIY projects, gardening, and driving through the country. He is also actively involved in the formation of the Minnesota Internet Cooperative Exchange (MICE). Nevin loves to share his thoughts and ideas on the world of technology. He can always be found dispensing technology tidbits on Twitter at @nevinlyne.
